Is Prayer A Crutch? - By Pat Stanton

Do you believe that prayer is a crutch? Well, I can eagerly tell you that it is. Prayer helps you to stand and to keep walking. Some people who think negatively state that only weak people pray and those who need a crutch. Is it weak to be able to come into the presence of a king?

We find that God Himself installed His Son, Jesus Christ, to be King of the church (Psalm 2:6). This wonderful king invites all who are weary and overburdened to come to Him. He is not a one term king, but He is God's King, the eternal Messiah, who will reign forever and ever (Psalm 10:16, Luke 1:32,33, Revelation 11:15).

He is the One who teaches us to walk without fear (Psalm 23:4). He said to the cripple, "Take up your bed and walk" (John 5:8). He is the One who said, "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27).

I must also state that prayer is certainly much more than a crutch or just an aid. Prayer gives you the right and ability to come before God's throne. "Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need" (Hebrews 4:16).
