Alone with God - By Pat Stanton

"So Jacob was left alone and a Man wrestled with him until daybreak" (Genesis 32:24) What does it mean to be left alone? Some people are reluctant to be alone at any time of the day, while others relish the idea. I read these words from a devotional book that was first printed in 1925: To be left alone without God would be too horrible for words, while being left alone with Him is a taste of heaven! And if His followers spent more time alone with Him, we would have many spiritual giants.
Â
When Jacob was left alone from family members, he spent an entire night with the angel of the Lord. He came forth with a new name and a new walk. As we spend time with the Lord, our best ideas, thoughts, and purposes come forth. Our Lord set a wonderful example for us concerning prayer with the Father: "Now in the morning, having risen a long time before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed" (Mark 1:35). Â

Jesus gave His followers a powerful command when He said, "When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray" (Matthew 6:6). What a simple command. But Oh how powerful the results!Â
