Are You Drinking? By Pat Stanton

Are you drinking from the right well? If you are still inwardly thirsting (this means spiritually within your heart) let me suggest that you begin drinking from the wells of salvation. This is a spiritual term in the Bible used to describe the abundant life obtained through Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Israel.

"But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up unto everlasting life" (John 4:14).

"Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation" (Isaiah 12:3). It may be that you are thirsty and empty deep within your heart. Let me suggest three things that will quench your thirst and give you a lasting peace.

1.  YOU MUST HAVE A WELL - You can come to Jesus Christ, who is the well. He has a vast reservoir of living water and healing streams of mercy. "And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb".  - Jesus, the Sacrifice (Revelation 22:1).

2.  YOU MUST HAVE A BUCKET - Spiritually speaking, your heart serves as the bucket. It will hold all the water (new life) that you need. Recognize that your heart is empty (born with a sinful nature and needs a cleansing touch). "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23).

3.  YOU MUST HAVE A ROPE - The rope is yourself. You have to let go of yourself and say, "Jesus, fill my life with your life." Now you lower your bucket (heart) with the rope. (This is an act of your will.) You recognize and admit, "I am a sinner. I need fresh water. I need cleansing by the blood of Jesus."

You now begin to pull. Pulling is believing. "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness" (Romans 10:10a). Now take long drink of pure, fresh water. Say (confess) that you want Jesus Christ to be the Lord of your life.

"With the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Romans 10:10b). You are now receiving His Spirit into your innermost being. If you have just felt the need for a spiritual rebirth, you can say this prayer:

God, I believe that Jesus Christ is your Son and that He died on a cross for my sins and has been raised from the grave. Jesus, come and live inside of my heart. I believe that I am now being born again and made new as I confess that Jesus Christ is Lord and Master of my life.
