The God of Peace - Part 1 - By Pat Stanton

Every human being knows that there must be some kind of peace available beause he is constantly searching for it.

Every human being knows that there must be some kind of peace available beause he is constantly searching for it.  If you stood on a street corner and asked each person what they wanted most out of life, a large number would say that they are searching for peace.  What is real peace?  How would you define the kind of peace that you need?

I like to think of peace as total well being.  This means that I am contented and thankful for life and for the position that I hold in life.  I have a deep calmness and rest within at all times.  This does not mean that there are never any problems or troubles that come, but it does mean that I can have a supernatural supply of peace from the river of God that never runs dry.

Let me give you the original meaning for the word peace as it is used in Isaiah 26:3, "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind (thoughts or imaginations) is stayed on thee:  because he trusteth in thee."  The original Hebrews says that this kind of peace means to be safe, well, happy, friendly, at rest, and to have health and prosperity.

The New Testament writer gives us further enlightenment as we look at this verse that shows the kind of peace that God gives through Christ our Lord.  John 14:27, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you:  not as the world giveth, give I unto you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."  The orginal Greek text reveals that this kind of peace means to be at one with yourself, to have quietness, rest, and properity.
