Alone with God - By Pat Stanton

"So Jacob was left alone and a Man wrestled with him until daybreak" (Genesis 32:24)  What does it mean to be left alone?

"So Jacob was left alone and a Man wrestled with him until daybreak" (Genesis 32:24)  What does it mean to be left alone?  Some people are reluctant to be alone at any time of the day, while others relish the idea.  I read these words from a devotional book that was first printed in 1925:  To be left alone without God would be too horrible for words, while being left alone with Him is a taste of heaven!  And if His followers spent more time alone with Him, we would have many spiritual giants.

When Jacob was left alone from family members, he spent an entire night with the angel of the Lord.  He came forth with a new name and a new walk.  As we spend time with the Lord, our best ideas, thoughts, and purposes come forth.  Our Lord set a wonderful example for us concerning prayer with the Father:  "Now in the morning, having risen a long time before daylight, He went out and departed to a solitary place; and there He prayed" (Mark 1:35).

Jesus gave His followers a powerful command when He said, "When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray" (Matthew 6:6).  What a simple command.  But Oh how powerful the results!Â
